Lt.Cdr. Ghulam Nabi Dar
Naval Officer (1962-1962)

Lt.Cdr. Ghulam Nabi Dar – 1962 By Kazi Zulkader Siddiqui, 671/Latif

Lt.Cdr. Ghulam Nabi Dar joined the college in 1962 as the Naval Officer. He left the college the same year due to ill health.  He was the second Naval Officer assigned to Cadet College Petaro after Cdr. Asrarullah.

He was born on 14 March 1923 and was married to (late) Mrs. Aziza Begum in July 1948.  They have seven children – Shamim Akhtar, CaptPN Altaf Nabi Dar (kit no. N-1), Shahida, Inam, Shaista, Shafiqa, and Cdre. Ayaz Nabi Dar (kit no. 7663).

Cdr.(R) Ghulam Nabi Dar expired at Karachi on 16 December 1996 of old age.

During the 1960’s, the Adjutant of the college was always a captain from the Pakistan Army. Pakistan Navy was thus represented by a “Naval Officer” of the rank of a Lieutenant Commander. It was only in the early 1970s when Pakistan Navy took over the total management control and the Army Adjutants came to an end and were replaced by naval officers. The position of the Naval Officer was abolished.

After leaving the college, he continued his service with the Pakistan Navy and finally retired as a Commander.

Two of his sons (Capt.PN Altaf Nabi Dar, N-1/J and Cdre. Ayaz Nabi Dar 7663/A), and two grandsons (Anwar Nabi Dar 97145/J and Ahsan Nabi Dar 99151/J) are Petarians.
